Backstory
Lauren Prochera is a completely self-taught pyrography artist with a focus in animal/wildlife based on Long Island, NY. In addition, she is also a Licensed Veterinary Technician with many interests in wildlife, rescue, rehab, labwork and conservation work. Shortly after graduating one of the top Vet Tech colleges in the nation, Lauren went on to intern at the World-Famous San Diego Zoo & Safari Park hospitals as she has a strong passion for wildlife and conservation which is expressed through most of her unique artwork.
In her early 20’s, she originally experimented with pyrography as an art hobby during her college years and has since grown into her current small art business until this day. She continues to expand in sharing her extremely unique art style with highlighting the importance of wildlife conservation throughout art galleries, museums, fairs, press and more. She hopes to grow exposure worldwide in this unique medium known as pyrography and hopes to connect more people with animals through her art by showcasing their beauty, need for protection and to raise awareness of the dangers that threaten wildlife worldwide.
Pyrography - ‘‘To Write with Fire’’
Pyrography is a very unique and rustic art form that involves the process of burning designs into surfaces, typically wood, with a handheld heat tool. Lauren’s main style is realism and all of her works are created by technique of only one single tip that is used to make all of her burnt designs. Normally, multiple interchangeable tips such as shading, fine tip, ball tip pens and more are used in the creation of pyrography artwork. However, since Lauren only uses one fine tip pen for every technique, this requires advanced skill beyond the norm for pyrography. As you can tell, this art form allows for little to no mistakes in which takes much skill, patience and precision. Pyrography is also a calming and therapeutic-like art form that cannot be rushed making it a slower process than other art forms. The scent of burning wood gives that extra special warm and natural touch to creating with this unique art form.
